Autographed Pictures Of Celebrities – Larry Adelman (79) has been collecting famous brands for 60 years. He says he has nearly 10,000 signatures.

What started as a small collection of autographs in a box nearly 60 years ago now covers the walls of the Solon couple’s basement.

Larry Adelman’s collection of many actors, athletes and world leaders began with his father, who worked in the film business at the National Screen Service.

National Screen is the place to go when it comes to film screenings in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, Adelman said. When movie stars came to promote their movies at the Cleveland office, Adelman’s father asked them for autographs.

Adelman’s father gave some signs to Adelman when he was young, and the rest to Adelman’s sister, but Adelman didn’t make signs to famous photos until his marriage 57 years ago.

“That’s when I really focused on work,” said Adelman, 79. Back in my day, when I was a kid, I threw away baseball cards that are worth $20,000 today, and I took my bike’s notes.

Adelman did much more than his collection. He arranged on his basement wall in categories such as movie actors, television actors, singers, US presidents, world leaders and various sports such as baseball, football, basketball, tennis, hockey and a swimming pool. It includes actors such as Barbra Streisand, Billy Crystal and Larry David to world leaders and all US presidents and former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir. Among the most famous people in history are American gangster Al Capone, Charles Manson and James Earl Ray, who killed Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

From a young age, Adelman said he had a deep love for American history. Now, he sees each face on his wall as part of that history.

He built his collection through auctions and attending weekly card shows where he saw players and other celebrities. If he’s going to a concert, like Kenny Rogers, he’ll bring a photo of the person in case Adelman runs into them. In Rogers’ case, Adelman took a stamp that Rogers had thrown into the audience, which Adelman signed after the show.

On rare occasions, Adelman would find a famous person out and about and ask them to sign a piece of paper, which Adelman would attach to their photo.

The 1,000 icons that line the walls of his basement are just a fraction of his entire collection. Atop his tower, more than 100 autographed baseballs and other memorabilia, more than 50 boxes filled with 170 to 200 signatures in each, for a total of nearly 10,000 brands.

When Adelman began to entertain, his wife Joanne also took to asking for autographs whenever she saw a famous person. Once, he saw Jacqueline Kennedy, the first lady of the United States, entering an airport bathroom. However, realizing that it wasn’t worth pursuing, Joanne Adelman missed the opportunity, which she says is one of her biggest regrets.

“He was in the bathroom, no one was there,” she said. “I can wash my hands of it.”

Walking through his collection, Larry Adelman points out some and explains how he got the autograph, such as professional boxer Muhammad Ali, who Adelman said was a class act.

“Muhammad Ali was there (playing cards),” Adelman said. “He couldn’t walk, he couldn’t talk, he was all beaten up at that time – it was later in life that he stopped fighting. I was with my son, and (Ali) stood. … Class work, class work.”

On the other end of the spectrum, one person Adelman said was not a class act was former ballplayer Willie Mays.

However, while the movement is gaining momentum, Adelman is in a recession. He wasn’t sure what would drive him away. He has so many autographs, though not exact duplicates, of famous people that he thinks he can get away with it and keep one for himself.

Some people say that you should avoid meeting your heroes, but there are few famous people who have the same kind of personality and character as their movies. For example, my favorite celebrity Anne Hathaway was very kind when she signed up for my good friend eBay.

My favorite, Davy Jones of the Monkees, the 60’s youth idol, is a good example for musicians to aspire to, because he is kind and sweet to his fans until the end.

Sometimes it’s not getting the signature that ends up frustrating, but the signature itself. I have found that a lame signature can be improved by applying proper personalization.
